E. Michael Reyes, MD, MPH
Edward Michael Reyes, MD, MPH, has held major leadership roles with both the Pacific AIDS Education and Training Center (PAETC), and its predecessor, the Western AIDS Education and Training Center, since 1989. His current position as PAETC Principal Investigator includes developing a variety of innovative HIV clinical training programs for health care providers in the states of California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, and the six United States affiliated Pacific jurisdictions. Dr. Reyes' role has also been to develop and direct 15 to 20 subcontracts with health professions schools and community-based organizations in the region. During that time, the funding for the project has grown from approximately $1.9 million annually to approximately $5 million annually.
In April 2002, in collaboration with the lead institute, University of Washington, Dr. Reyes co-founded the International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH), now serving as I-TECH's Senior Director, and as the Principal Investigator for the UCSF component of I-TECH's clinical activities. I-TECH currently is working in 25 countries and the Caribbean region. Dr. Reyes holds a Professor Faculty appointment in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, UCSF. As the Principal Investigator of the National Center of Excellence for Transgender Health (CoE), Dr. Reyes also oversees the project and assures contract compliance on a variety of grants, including collaborations with UCSF's Center for AIDS Prevention Studies and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
