Angel Ventura was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. She migrated to San Francisco in 1995 with her family. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration at Golden Gate University in 2014 while working as a Research/Program Coordinator at the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health, UCSF. She is currently a registered nurse in California and pursuing a Nurse Practitioner degree at the UCSF School of Nursing, specializing in Adult Primary Care and HIV minor with the expected graduation date June 2019. She is passionate about addressing health and social inequalities that exist for many transgender individuals, particularly disadvantaged trans women of color who are living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS.

Through her work at the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health, she co-authored a chapter in the United Nations Development Programme publication "Implementing Comprehensive HIV and STI Programmes with Transgender People: Practical Guidance for Collaborative Interventions (the "TRANSIT")" and an article titled "Acceptability and Feasibility of HIV Self-Testing Among Transgender Women in San Francisco: A mixed Methods Pilot Study". She helped with coordinating the inaugural National Transgender HIV Testing Day and biannual National Transgender Health Summit.
